We are an eclectic collection of people from various nations all over the world, living in the Metro Vancouver/Fraser Valley area on the West Coast of Beautiful British Columbia. We've been in this area since 1972 - our story can be read under "Our History".
We are deeply invested in seeing people of all ages, and backgrounds have a life-changing encounter with the living God; this is why YWAM Vancouver exists! We are passionate about our God, and making Him known throughout Canada and the world; training and sending young people out to take their place in the Great Commission - whether that be in a corporate workplace, or the far corners of the earth.
We feel it is of utmost importance to care for each other, creating time and space to process, as well as member care services and resources. We believe that part of discipling others well means continuing to be discipled yourself, and that caring for our staff is vital for ministry life.
If you are looking to make a difference with your life, come join our YWAM Vancouver team and live the adventure! We might be a bit biased, but we think you'll love it here.
One of the first things you’ll notice when you come is that you’re in one of the most beautiful places on earth. The city is hidden between the Pacific Ocean, stunning coastal mountains, and an ancient temperate rain forest. The second thing you’ll notice is that you’re in one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the world, about 52% of residents have a first language other than English.
With its scenic views, mild climate, and friendly people, Vancouver is known around the world as one of the best places to live and is a popular tourist attraction. Vancouver boasts one of the best public transit systems in Canada, making it easy to get around the city without need of a vehicle. It is also one of the safest cities for biking, with bike lanes covering a good majority of the city.
With lots to explore and effective ways to do it, Vancouver is one place that you don’t want to miss out on.
YWAM began in Vancouver in 1972 when Uli Korstch pioneered a new YWAM work on the West Coast of Canada. From 1975 to 1980, the Dilaram House was the YWAM expression at the time ministering to back packers, hippies, and world travelers from all backgrounds and nations. YWAM's presence continued to take shape and deepen throughout the 1980's and early 1990's. In the early 2000s, we began to offer DTS’s to young people who were hungry to know more about God.
YWAM Nexia began in the early 2000's. YWAM Nexia was a ministry with a vision to reawaken the pioneering spirit of Canadian young people. After more than ten years of ministry in the Vancouver/Lower Mainland area, God began nudging YWAM Nexia towards YWAM Vancouver. After much discussion and prayer, YWAM Vancouver and YWAM Nexia agreed that God was calling us to join to become one unique YWAM community and to move forward with purpose and clarity of calling. The merger was completed in 2013 and a brand new YWAM Vancouver was birthed.
Today, YWAM Vancouver continues to grow and engage in the city. We currently have more than 40 staff. Many of our staff are engaged directly in reaching Vancouver through various ministries from Mission Adventures to running a preschool. Others have a more global focus and often travel to encourage YWAM leaders around the world. We also proudly run two DTS’s and two secondary schools, the School of Ministry and Leadership Development (SOMLD) and the Chronological School of Biblical Studies (CSBS). We are proud to be YWAM Vancouver and to be a part of God’s heart for this city.
