Chronological School of Biblical Studies
The Bible is the foundation for all followers of Christ, and is essential to whatever ministry to which he has called us.
"All Scripture is inspired by God, and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17
What Is It?
The Chronological School of Biblical Studies (CSBS) is a nine-month course, where students will study each verse of every passage, of all 66 books in the Bible, allowing it to shape their worldview and transform their lives. During this time students will learn how to study the Bible inductively, carefully observing what the text says, interpreting what it means, and applying it to their lives.
In the CSBS, we begin in the book of Genesis, and follow the story of God’s redemptive plan through the whole Bible. Through the Old Testament, you will not only get to know God’s character in a deeper way, but get to explore each and every Messianic prophecy pointing towards who Jesus is, and what He would come to do.
After having studied all 39 books of the Old Testament, you will begin your study of the New Testament with Matthew. Here you will get to fall in love with Jesus all over again, understanding Him and the cross on a whole new, deeper level. From there you will continue your study of the rest of the New Testament, from the Great Commission to the victory of Jesus Christ and the church in the book of Revelation!
What To Expect?
In John 6:68 Peter declared to Jesus, ”Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life”.
Studying the Bible is one of the most life-giving things that we can do! Through studying the Bible for these nine months, you can expect to:
Grow in your knowledge of truth
Be transformed through the conviction of the Holy Spirit through the Word
Increase in your zeal and love for God and His Word
Be equipped for your life and ministry
Gain study skills that apply to the Bible and much more!
By the end of CSBS, you will be able to knowledgeably understand and explain each chapter of the Bible, seeing it in light of its original cultural and historical context. You will be essentially writing your own commentary, based on your own study of the entire Bible. However, we don’t stop at knowledge. By the end of your study, you will have discovered literally thousands of timeless truths that you can apply to your life, and use to disciple others.
CSBS is an intense academic nine-month course, so you can expect at least 40 hours of homework per week outside of regular class time. You can also expect a break between each of the three 12-week quarters.

Bryan met his wife KJ while staffing SBS together in Kona, in 2001. They quickly became best friends, and got married in 2010. They welcomed their baby daughter into the world in June, 2015. KJ works with JUSTICEWATER, which is a ministry of YWAM, focused on bringing clean water to developing countries around the world.
The CSBS will run September 25, 2018 – June 24, 2019. It is divided into three 12 week quarters:
September 25 – December 14, 2018: Introduction of how to study the Bible inductively, learning advanced skills of using literary and historical context in your Bible Study. Books Studied: Genesis through 2 Chronicles, including wisdom and poetry books.
January 1 – March 23, 2019: Introduction of how to study and understand the Old Testament Prophets, paying extra attention to Messianic prophecies. Books Studied: Isaiah through Malachi, including post-exilic historical books (Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther). We finish by encountering Jesus as the Messiah and fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies in the Gospel of Matthew.
April 2 – June 24, 2019: Continuation of our study of the New Testament, pulling all of our studies of the Bible together in the Gospels and the Epistles, discovering the redemptive power of the cross, and the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit to fulfill the Great Commission. Books Studied: Mark through Revelation.
What To Do Between Quarters: You will have around 1-2 weeks break between each quarter. Students are free to stay in their housing, exploring the incredible city of Vancouver, and the stunning beauty of British Columbia. Students are also free to go home to visit friends and family during this time.
Vancouver is consistently rated among the top cities in the world in which to live. Nestled among majestic snow-capped mountains to the east, and the picturesque Pacific Ocean to the west, there is no city more beautiful in the world! Along with this, it is one of the most dynamic and multicultural cities. Having the largest Asian population in the Western World*, it is a gateway to ministry in Asia and throughout the world. Along with this, the weather is comfortable all year long, and there are endless fun adventures to be had!
