This week we had our very own Nadine Frew speaking to us about Staying Spiritually Healthy. We discussed many different ways of staying healthy including spiritual practices like reading Scripture out loud together, having quiet moments where you just listen to God, praying Scripture over ourselves and others, and using pictures or other focus points to speak prophetic words over others.
We also reiterated on some points about how each of us hears Gods voice in different ways and at different moments more naturally. Some of us prefer to be in nature and find solitude to best hear the Lord, while others might prefer large groups of people all singing and worshiping together. Whether it's through those methods or anything in between and beyond, we all hear Him differently; but that doesn't mean we only hear Him in those situations.
God is the reason for all of our strength, He is the only one who is capable of changing us and growing us to be more like Him. So it's our responsibility to stay healthy spiritually so that we can actually hear Him. And as we listen, we need to listen from a posture of openness with a willing to obey. A great quote from the week was "From your innermost being flow rivers of life-giving water." It really spoke to me, but the important thing about it is that it's true. God fill us up with these life-giving waters and it's important that we have a strong relationship with Him so that we have the ability to let those waters flow into others around us. In this school we're learning how to be leaders, and I think it's important to understand that when we take up out future leadership positions it's not going to be all about us anymore. We need to be able to make the best decision for the group, regardless of any personal "storms" we might be in. We build up these good habits in the calm, when we have the time to focus on ourselves, so that when life gets hectic we can keep healthy and be sure that we are leading in a way that is pleasing to God.
This week was full of great insight, sometimes you just have to do a little digging to see it. This weekend has been nice and relaxing, we watched some movies and some people in the house got to visit Lynn Canyon for the first time. I can't believe it's week 5 already, but I expect there to be more revelations and good times in the last half of the school as well. Have a great week everybody.
