Spring DTS 2016 – Week 13 [Final Lecture]

For our last week of lectures we had Paul Martinson, who is one of the founders of YWAM Canada. Paul spoke about “The Cross” this week, where he also unpacked what repentance is all about. Repentance comes from the greek word “metanoia”, which means to change one’s thinking. As we understand the significance of the cross it creates a shift in not only our thinking, but our feelings, actions and behaviour. The good news of the cross leads to repentance as it produces a transformation in the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2).

Tuesday evening we had our monthly 3C Night where all the YWAM Vancouver community gather for dinner, worship, prayer and fellowship. As it was our last week of lectures and the final meeting before we leave on outreach, the night was a little bit different than normal. We all dressed up, and enjoyed a more formal celebration at the beautifully decorated YWAM center. For dinner we had a Lebanese feast and for dessert we went all out on ice-cream and toppings with cookies, chocolate, berry sauce etc. The rest of the evening was spent sharing testimonies and receiving prayer. As an outreach team we ended the night linking arms in a circle as the entire community prayed over us. Lots of sad and happy tears were involved!

Thursday was our last official day of 13 weeks of lectures, can you believe it? Paul concluded this time by leading us in communion with Maressa’s freshly baked bread, yummy! He then spoke prophetic blessings over each and every one of us. The day concluded back at the house with more food and baking Nanaimo bars and chocolate cupcakes.

Friday was a national holiday to celebrate Canada Day! We went all out and began the day with a classic Canadian breakfast of pancakes and maple syrup, and an abundance of fruit. We then dressed in red and white and covered ourselves with maple leaf tattoos, before heading downtown for all the festivities. We had a huge day beginning at Granville Island, then Kitsilano Beach and ended in the city center for the parade and fireworks. One of the highlights of the day was after the parade where we joined thousands and danced in the street of downtown Vancouver with people from all over the world. It was awesome!

On Saturday we all slept in as we had had quite a late night on Canada Day. Most of us spent the day resting and began packing for outreach. Simon, Danielle and I decided to go on an adventure to Lynn Canyon in the afternoon. We explored the forest trails, walked across the famous 50 meter high suspension bridge, skipped stones and finished the day at the 30 foot pool where Simon had a dip in the 10 degree water!

Sunday was our last official day in Vancouver before Cambodia!!! It was a little bit crazy in the house as we all ran around doing last minute packing, washing, and cleaning. I’m pretty sure our washing machine was on the entire day. At 11pm our team left for our 2 AM flight for Siem Reap, Cambodia!

Please keep us in your prayers, and stay tuned to hear all about our first week of outreach!
