This week we were very privileged to hear from one of our own staff members, Tanya Lyons, as she spoke about the nature and character of God. Tanya took us on quite the adventure as she shared many of her life experiences with us, bringing both tears and laughter. Her practical teaching filled the classroom with life and colour as she got us onto our feet, inviting us into her story.
"Do you know God or do you just know about him?" was a question a lot of us spent some time chewing on this week. We reflected on our own relationship with him and whether it is in fact relational. Sometimes what we know about God are the exact things that keep us from truly knowing him. As we went to scripture we were encouraged by the incredible gift of relationship God has given us with him and with each other. The weight of this truth and the fact that HE wants to make himself known to each one of us is something I will forever be in awe of.
On Monday night two members of our DTS team, Ando and Betrand celebrated their one year wedding anniversary. We all got our ninja on and surprised them with a romantic home cooked meal - flowers and candles included! The rest of us then headed to our leaders house, Betty-Ann’s, for pizza -some very interesting fun facts were revealed when we played “2 truths, 1 lie”, (a game where you say three things about yourself, two of which are true, and people have to guess which is the lie).
We also had our first 3C night, which stands for Communication, Collaboration and Connection. At this monthly meeting all of the communities of YWAM Vancouver (who are spread out across the lower mainland) get together for dinner, worship and lots of fellowship. Part of the evening also involved hearing from Lost Kites and watching their documentary which is promoting the safe transfer of global funding from orphanages to family based care. Make sure to check out their website, this guys are doing some really good stuff! (http://lostkites.com)
The weekend then began with our weekly Friday night movie session. With no TV in the house, we’ve made our own at-home movie theatre using a projector in our lounge room and of course, way too much popcorn. On Saturday morning many of us woke up to the aroma of bacon, eggs, maple syrup and waffles, as we enjoyed a typical Canadian breakfast. Some of us put our tourist hat on and explored downtown, and the rest of us took advantage of the warm weather that is very much upon us. Summer is coming...well what Canadians call summer at least. The Australian in me is needing some heat 🙂
Please keep us in your prayers as we spend next week diving into the bible with Bryan Appelt.
